Winter Wasps

Today for some reason, I have been thinking about bees and wasp nests.  In the winter!  Were the nests placed high or low this year?  I cannot say, for I didn't see any in my travels.  The bald face hornet nest above was found in the summer of 2009 growing in an ornamental tree about 3 feet off the ground in Wolfville.  The wasps even consolidated the tree's fruit into the nest's paper, leaving some intact sticking out through the sides of the nest, giving splashes of plum colour and crypsis.
